please help
Hi everyone,
I've had my lovely hammie for two weeks and stupidly tonight i agreed to get her out for a friend - 1st time i lifted her out the cage with my hand and iw as standing up. PLEASE - IM BEATING MYSELF UP - I DON'T NEED YOU TO DO IT TOO. she jumped out of my hands and landed on the floor. she was on her back, i turned her over and she wasn't moving - when i picked her up, she was standing in my hand (i popped her in the cage so she didn't freak).
Now she is happy as larry. what do i do? could there be damage that isn't obvious?
Plreas ehelp - i know this is such a rookie mistake i genuinely feel sick.

Re: please help
is she acting normal? i know it sounds stupid, but did she land on carpet or hard floor? its not you fault!!! dont take it out on yourself-you will bond with her in no time and she wont jump. if she is as happy as larry i am sure she is fine. maybe pm souffle as she is very experienced. dont be too harsh on yourself, it couldnt be helped!!! xxxxx

Re: please help
Its ok we all make mistakes, keep and eye on her to make sure she is moving around as normal and is eating, drinking and washing herself etc. try holding her in the cage or just smoothing her to make sure she doesnt squeak in pain, if she seems injured pop her along to the vets she may have broke something or have some bruising and may need painkillers. Dont beat yourself up you are only human, chin up sweety hope your little one is ok xxx

Re: please help
maybe next time hold her whilst you sit/lie in the bath so if she does jump you can catch her easily again and it wont be a big fall for her. hammies are tough cookies, she will be fine. take the taming process slow from now on though, as it was probably quite a shock for her. all my love, Emma <3

Re: please help
Young hammy bones are quite bendy and it is likely she is just fine. You are not the first and won't be the last to experience a jumpy youngster fall to the floor.
If she shows no sign of any problems tomorrow you can safely say she is OK and just be very sure to lift her cage on to the floor or bed before taking her out next time.
Work hard on the taming now so she is able to be lifted without taking a 'furry fit' as we call it

Re: please help
I've done it many times, and you never get used to the guilt!
But hamsters really are tuff cookies and you'll be surprised what they can handle
I'm sure your baby forgives you and without making some mistakes you never learn.

Re: please help
Thanks guys. I've been so careful - only getting her out in the bath - i just got over-excited when a friend came round. She seems fine - she's etaing and drinking and was on her wheel as usual last night. poor baby tho - i felt awful seeing her lying there on her back. I thunk you were right eema i think she was just shocked.
I've only had her two weeks and im so attached its not even funny. My husband thinks im crazy!
