I am so mad

OhhhhMyyyyGodddd!

So I needed to get some new bedding for Bloo. The closest place is that nasty Pet Supermarket I mentioned before, where I got Georgia? Yeah. Georgia ended up having wet tail and had to get PTS.

So, I go into this store, just to get bedding and maybe a toy. I stop to look at the syrians, and EVERY ONE OF THEM HAS GOT WET TAIL. They were all long haired banded either cream or black on all of them. Every single one was sick, one looked like it was about to die! They had rabbit food still, and the wheel was a piece of crap.

Then I look over at the rabbits, and I notice that they have guinea pigs and rabbits in the same cage! I don't know if thats bad or not, as i've never owned either but still.

So I get my bedding, and I go to look at balls, since Dewey doesn't have one. They don't have any clear ones. I ask the lady who walked past if they had any and she says "no we only sell the colored ones!" And I was like "well I'll only buy clear because hamsters have already got bad enough eyesight, they dont need bright colors getting in their way" and she's like "listen, i'm sure the orange one will be fine, thats clear enough!" and i'm like "no, you have no idea what you're talking about, so I wont be needing help anymore." and she walked away.

I happen to walk past cages. The largest cage they have is a small habitrail. And the store only sells Syrians. They had this cage that was so small, I wanted to throw it across the fricken room.

I didn't have the guts to tell someone that every single hamster in there was sick. I bought the bedding and walked out, almost in tears.

I wish I had brought my camera so I could take pictures of the conditions and send them to the SPCA and have something done... god I am in such a bad mood now!

THEYRE GIVING HER AWAY BECAUSE THEY CANT HOLD IT. WTF?! And they cant even spell hamster right!

lmao thats horrible i go into stores all the time to look at fish and i know a ton about fish and i walk up to who ever is working and tell them straight out all your fish are going to die just to let you know and walk away people are so ignorant its disgusting

Having rabbits and guinea pigs in the same cages is bad, one will kill the other.
Its so sad about the hamsters

It makes me sick thinking about what they have to go through

Thats really terrible - I think that you did well to stay so restrianed.

I would definately report the store to the SPCA, tell them what you saw, and that all the hamsters had wet tail, and ask them to send an officer in to take a look. At least then you will have done what you can.

Yes, you are right, bunnies and gunieas must not be kept together, it would also be worth telling the SPCA this too, as they will fight and possibly kill each other.

Could you not order bedding and toys from the internet instead of giving your money to such a lousy store?? Sorry thats not a critism on your part at all, I begrudge giving my money to pets at home stores here, but they are much better than you what you have just described. Just a suggestion

As for the advert for the little hammy - Gah! I am having a hard time with my new one too, she is so nervous and jumpy and seems to hate hands near her, but I know that I will get there with her, it may take weeks, or months, but I love her and I want to gain her trust and give her the best possible life. Some people just see these animals as the latest comoditiy, it it breaks or dosent work they 'throw it away' and get a new one.

Its just so sad . . .

oh yeah...that other story...one of my hammies is just not interested in me and other humans. so i dont really notice him being my hammie. BUT i still love him and would never give him away. people just have to accept that hamsters might not want to be lifted up and stroked and stuff like that. they just want us to feed them, give them fresh water und give them play time. oh dear...maybe its good that this person gives the hamster away and hopefully wont take another one

Oh my God, definitely report them, makes me see Pets at Home in a slightly better light. Poor little hamsters they don't stand a chance. You're right guinea pigs and rabbits should never be kept together. The rabbit can kick so hard with it's back legs that it can injure or kill the guinea pig.

As for that horrible person in the advert, makes me so mad, people need to stop seeing animals as objects that they can discard when they don't suit them. Some of mine aren;t particularly friendly but it doesn't mean I love them any less.
