Hopefully its just a case of her being in season and the increased heat has increased her blood pressure and caused the bleeding. Fingers crossed Mel and I hope she is alright.

Sorry I cannot help at all with the bleeding but I wanted to wish Peggy well and will keep my fingers crossed that it is not anything serious.

pyometra has been suggested on MAH forum. Which i believe the fact she is bleeding would mean she could have open pyometra (infection in the uterus, often common in older hamsters)
I don't know whether open pyometra needs an operation, but i know that closed does.
Which obviously isn't an option for Peggy

The same thing happened to my hamster a while back. I found blood where in her pee corner and when I had a look over her I saw some dried blood by her vagina. She was acting completely fine and there was no change in her behaviour whatsoever. It is uncommon but not unheard of. If she is acting as she normally would then you shouldn't worry yourself. I never took her to the vet's and she hasn't bled since that day.

I hope this helps!

thankyou smysha that has really made me feel much better
I think i will take her to the vets for piece of mind even if she does stop bleeding anyway!
But i just checked again and its only a bit of dry blood around the area no more bleeding since.
Shes still acting fine, although i thought she was hunching over i found she was just trying to clean her area a bit.

Don't worry about it. I totally freaked as well. There was a post on here and I had set her spare cage for an impromptu vet visit and watching her play so normally made me pause. I didn't go to the vet's but I, apparently, freaked out to my boyfriend. Personally I don't think it was freaking out.

We all panic cause it's our babies!
I am particularly attached to Peggy as I've had her the longest.
I was nearly in tears, seeing as I never cry much, looks like these hamsters are getting to me LOL
