Brown discharge in eye

Hello,

I’m looking for some help for our newest hamster, a 9 week old Syrian girl. We got her over a week ago. Soon after bringing her home I noticed that one of her eyes looked ‘wet’ and has continued to do so. But tonight her eye was filled with a brown discharge/fluid. I gently dabbed it away with tissue. It keeps filling up with this brown discharge. I have cleaned her eye with cotton and cool boiled water. She is fine in herself, it doesn’t seem to bother her, she seems happy and is active and eating and drinking. Any idea what this could be and if a trip to the vet is needed?
We use all hamster safe products. We have a 1.5 year old hamster and have never had this issue.

This indicates an eye infection or injury. It's not blood but called porphorin and excreted from the back of the eye when there is an infection or injury.
You could try bathing it with a saline solution. half a pint of cooled boiled water with a half teaspoon of salt but she probably needs a vet check and possibly treatment with drops or gel.
