Default Stroke?

Hello,

all my hammies is from homes there couldnt have them anymore, so I`m kind of used to animals there have health issues. I do have a dwarf boy, he is less then a year old. I have noticed recently that he does have issues walking, its like his back legs on the right side draws him to the side or how I should say it.
He also does have problems with using the wheel, he cant get in.
I know from experience that it is bad prognose for this issues, I think there are some nevrological issues and nothing to do about it. I have reached out to the vet but will call them tomorrow.

I feel sad as I know that I most likely does have to let him go, but to make a descision like that is hard to do. So I wonder if there are some others here there have been in this situation before?

Default Re: Stroke?

I've had a couple of hamsters with strokes in the past and in my experience the ones that thend to make a good recovery do so fairly quickly. The ones with the neurological issues that remain can carry on living with a reasonable quality of life if the issues are relatively minor but ones with issues that prevent them from eating or drinking normally or getting around their cage often don't do that well in the long term and it's usually kinder to have them put to sleep.

I'm sorry to hear that your hamster is unwell.
