Syrian Allergic to Sand
Hi!
My female Syrian appears to be allergic to sand. I use the brand witte molen for her sand. She recently started to love sleeping in her sand bath but I noticed that she started sneezing so I removed her sand bath and am bringing her to the vet today.
I feel bad because she seemed to love her sand bath, are there any replacements for her? I am hesitant to try different brands of sand as I do not wish to trigger anything.

Re: Syrian Allergic to Sand
How did her vet appoinment go? Because it is a possibility that there could only be a problem with the sand and you might want to switch brands or something. You could always try generic sand and from a garden store, that's worked with my hamster before and she loves it.
If you need any brand recommendations, let me know, unless there's something wrong with your hamster instead of the sand. Please inform me on how her appoinment went, if you don't mind!
Best of luck,
-Aegis

Re: Syrian Allergic to Sand
The vet mentioned that she felt and sounded good but we've started her on antibiotics since I caught her sneezing and also heard a slightly clicky sound a few nights ago. Thankfully we caught it before it could harm her body.
My hamster has been using that brand of sand since she was at with her fosterer, before I adopted her, so I'm not sure if the problem is actually the sand. For now, I will be keeping the sand away until she finishes her antibiotics.

Re: Syrian Allergic to Sand
I'm glad to hear her appoinment went well, and I hope she feels better soon. <3 If she does get better and then become sick again when exposed to the sand, then definately keep it away from her.
I hope all goes well,

Re: Syrian Allergic to Sand
Do you know if not having a sand bath for now would affect her? I know most Syrians don't use the sand to bath/roll in unlike dwarfs, and that they groom themselves. But was wondering if not having sand would affect her fur/skin.
