Default Nelp on caring for Hamster with wet tail

Hi everyone, me and my wife took my boy Potato (male Syrian hamster 10 months old) to the vet 3 days ago and the vet concluded that my boy got wet tail and there is very little chance that he can survive... She gave him some anti biotic and asked to see him everyday to give antibiotic through injection.

My guy is still fighting everyday and we tried our best to keep him from losing weight buy trying to syringe feed him with oats porridge every three hours in the evening. So far he hasn't lost further weight but we are worried if we are disturbing him way too much as he also got 1 hour car ride everyday to see the vet...

We have done a lot of reading on internet and some said we should not disturb him but some also said we must not leave him dehydrated. He has eaten very little except from the porridge that we syringe fed him every few hours.

Has anyone treated your babies with wet tail before and would you mind sharing your experience with me please? My boy is way too precious for us and we will do everything we can to help him with a fighting chance.

Hey, so sorry to hear about the hamster with wet tail, hopefully he feels better soon. <3 I do know of some foods that can help him eat and stay hydrated such as cucumbers (I highly recommend) as well as raspberries because they have antioxidants and vitamins. Other fruits like apples, strawberries, and blackberries are good, just not too much fruit at once. Start off with raspberries and see how he does.
One of my hamsters had wet tail (sadly she didn't make it) but even if your hamster doesn't survive, giving him foods that he likes might make him happier.
I wish you and your hamster the best of luck.

Thanks so much Aegis, Potato is feeling much better now and he has started eating dry food on his own.
I’m still worried that he may not drink sufficient water as normally we feed him cucumber and other veg/fruit that you mentioned.
We still syringe feed him probiotic three times per day along with some water to ensure he got enough water but we wonder when can we feed him his favorite veg/ fruit again.
Please let me know if anyone got experience helping them recover before?
Thanks!
