Hammy got stuck
Hi all, I have a four week old russian dwarf that is currently staying in a cage with wire near the top.
When I woke up this morning I found her stuck between the bars of the cage, I had to bend the bars to pull her out, I am not sure how long she was stuck for.
She has drank quite a bit of water and has just eaten some food, she is sitting in the corner of the cage and her heart seems to be beating quite intensely (I'm guessing this is probably just shock) as far as I can tell she doesn't have major injuries, the side of her mouth from chewing in the bars is a bit swollen and it looks like she may have rubbed the one side of her neck raw on the bars.
I've never had a hamster get stuck like this and I'm very worried. I love my hammies and seeing her stuck made me physically ill. Is there anything I can or should be doing for her ?

Re: Hammy got stuck
Poor thing. If she is walking and eating and drinking OK I would keep her quiet and warm but consider changing to a tank type enclosure so this can't happen again I would say.

Re: Hammy got stuck
She seems okay, she's eaten and drank and has been quite active today, I'm getting a new enclosure for her tomorrow

Re: Hammy got stuck
That's good news that she seems OK. I'm sure she will settle quickly in her new cage
