Syrian hamster losing fur around scent glands
Hi,
I’ve attached some photos of my 8 month old male Syrian. Over the last few weeks i’ve noticed he appears to be losing fur around his scent glands. It started off as a two almost holes in his coat where the glands are but now seems to have spread particularly on one side and the area around his glands is also bald. I’m not sure whether I need to be worried? Apologies I can only up load the photos in very low resolution.
Ive been quite stressed about him lately as I’ve moved into a new rental property which is very cold and has very high humidity levels despite all our efforts to ventilate it. I’ve been trying my hardest to ensure the temperature doesn’t drop below 17/18 degrees celsius and I cover his cage with a blanket every night as well as placing a snuggle safe against one side to try and make sure he has the option to get somewhere warmer. He seems alert and as lively as ever and runs on his wheel and eats normally. He does feel slightly cold to the touch sometimes which worries me although i’m getting an oil radiator for the room soon so it shouldn’t be an issue for long. Is it possible the house could be causing these issues for him? He’s been living here since September and the issue with the fur loss has been more recent.
Thanks!
