My little 2yo hamster Tootsie is having a variety of issues.
Last week she was suddenly cold, couldn't stand up, looked like she was dying. I put her on a heating pad, she lay on her side breathing really heavily and foam came out of her nose. I thought she had died BUT then suddenly she was up and moving and has now been her usual self for a week.
Then she developed a huge lump on her head. It was hard/squishy - we researched and deducted it was an abscess. There are no vets near that take hamsters so my husband and I had to operate. We cut it open and squeezed out disgusting, smelly pus. Her head was like a deflated ballon. Now she has a huge black spot on her head and the hair is falling out. The abscess has moved to cheek now. She is her usual self during all of this but we do not know what to do. Operate on the other abscess or just leave her alone. It's breaking my heart to see her in this condition.
Any advice would be welcome.
