Exclamation Lost of fur around scent gland area:what can we do?

Thank you so much for reading this paragraph!

Greetings! Here’s what happened. This evening,I went to check on my female syrian like any other day but my little brother said that there’s no fur around her waist/scent glands area. I went to check and there IS fur loss around that area. Here’s is a photo.IMG_2023-7-12-215532.jpegAfter that, the first thing that came to my mind is a scent gland infection and I knew I would have to take her to the vet. The problem is that I can’t call the right now since it’s ten in the evening so I’ll have to call the vets after school since none of my parents really know anything about hamsters. My concern is,what should I do during the times when she’s not yet going to the vets and what should I expect from the vets?cost, type of medication etc. (we will pay for whatever it is but we just want the estimated cost for guidelines ).

Many thanks

I don't think it's a vet emergency. It's normal for there to be some thinner fur over the scent glands especially if you have been cleaning out and they have increased scent production making the fur look damp there.
Vets can be expensive so don't call as an emergency. They may offer mite treatment but even a consultation will be between £20 - £40.
Can you get a clearer photo and a wholebody photo so we can see the extent of the fur loss?

Hi

I was after some help with my male Syrian hamster. Around a year ago he started loosing fur around his back. After a few months he was a little bald but it started to grow back.
In Jan this year it started again but this time it's worse.
We took him to the vet and she gave him some drops to put on to see if it worked but it didn't. She said we need to take him to a exotic specialist however this will cost us around £80 and is an hour drive.

He scratches but not excessive and his skin is not red or sore. He eats and drinks and seems happy apart from being bald.
Any help at all would be really helpful. I have attached some photos
Thank you
Lisa
