Dark patch around hamster's eye
Hello everyone and thank you in advance for any help you might provide. This small hamster in the picture is Pip Pip, a 1 year 3 month old winter white.
Yesterday he was all normal, but today I noticed a dark patch around his eye and an unusual behavior were he scratches himself a lot. I immediately emptied and cleaned his cage and all of his toys/furniture and after that tried to prompt him with some food, but he just stood in place and didn't respond to anything. A bit later, he started acting more lively again, stuffed himself with food, drank some water and hid in his house (where he is right now).
I planned to take him to the vet in the morning, but I'm a bit freaked out atm and looking for advice or anything and whether I can do something in the meantime. I live in a hot/humid country (SE Asia) if that is an important bit of information.
