Ask to share the bill?

Ca 1,5 week ago, I did get a syrian boy from a family that didnt could have him anymore. The first day here I noticed that he made sound, I think it is from his lungs, he also does bite but I was told he is very tame as he comes from a etical breeder.I have asked they about it and the mother told me that he made sound when he were nervous and insecure. My question is, as I`m going to the vet with him this week, should I kindly ask her if they want to split the bill with me as this is the first thing that happends as fast as he gets here? Maybe a rude question, thats why I ask here first.

I think once you take on an animal it is your responsibility to provide for it's needs including vet care. You could ask however they may not be willing to help out and then you might feel resentful. I would have the hamster checked out by a vet as soon as possible in case it is treatable.
