Unhappy Female Syrian Hamster looking wet.

I have a female adult Syrian hamster (1.5~ years) and about 4 days ago I noticed that she’s looking wet around her front paws and belly area; similar to when you sweat after a work out. At first I thought she may have gotten wet from her water bowl so I dried her off and look around her cage to see if there was anything strange (diarrhea or peeing outside her sand box). After giving her cage a clean up and changing her water and food I put her back in and waiting for the next day. Well, next day she’s once again looking wet and disheveled!

Her teeth look to be a good length and she has plenty of things to chew on.

I’m wondering if this has something to do with her scent glands? Is she maybe over grooming? I notice this most when she’s waking up from her sleeps but her nest area is dry.

I have noticed she’s drinking water more regularly but her private parts look fine so I don’t think it’s a UTI from first glance?

Has anyone had experience with this? Any help is appreciated.

I’ve called multiple vets in my area but non tend to hamsters. I’m very willing to drive farther out but if this is just something that happens with age then ???

It’s hard to say without seeing her - could you share a photo.

Depending on where you live and how hot your house is. I’ve had hamsters get their bellies wet to help cool their body temperature.

If you say it her belly that wet then that rules out scent gland as they are on their hips as they do like them and get them looking all wet to spread their scent around.

Drinking more as they age is normal it often due to their kidney function. I would carefully monitor the amount she drinking daily as hamsters typical drink 10ml per 100g of body weight.

Thank you for responding!

I've attached a couple of pictures of what she's looking like right now.

My room is in the attic and but it doesn't get very hot it's currently around (63F at the moment)

She's usually gotten her belly, front paws, and sides area.

I just gave her the quickest little water wipe down a hamster has ever gotten (no soap!) and an even quicker dry with the hair blower (Away from the face and with the cool setting on) but I didn't see any black dots or any show of mites on her skin and fur.

I'm thinking of starting fresh with her bedding, wheel, everything to see if maybe its some kind of itch??? or something???

Have you seen her bottle chewing at all? This looks like she is bottle chewing and the water is going in the pouches then seeping out again. I would remove the water bottle right away then give her a small bowl for water and see if this stops. They can get obsessed with the spout and shove it right in the pouch and damage the lining which should be dry.
Hamsters can also drool of they get overgrown teeth or maloccluded teeth or pouch or tooth abscesses. The saliva causes soreness and redness and she doesn't currently look to have that. I think she's bottle chewing and it's making you think she's drinking a lot
