Default Moving house with an older hamster

Hi! Iím sorry if this is in the wrong category, I couldnít decide which was the most fitting. I got Daphne a year ago, Iím not sure how old she was when I got her but I was told she was around 1 year. I noticed her having some fur loss around 2 month ago, after taking her to the vets she was treated for mites. She seems to be itching less but her fur loss has continued and she seems to be getting more frail. My concern now is that Iím moving to a new city in 3 weeks time and I canít decide whatís the best option for her, she gets very stressed with change (having to do full cage cleans with the mites was very upsetting for her) and Iím really worried about the stress of moving her to a new city. So I have two options, to leave her with my Mum, where we are now, or to move her with me. If I leave her here, she will be looked after but she wonít be handled daily - only when I come home (which is likely to be every other week). But if I move her when sheís already unwell Iím worried the stress will make her worse. I just wanted some opinions on what the best option for her would be?

It's a difficult choice but you can only do what you feel is in the best interest of your hammy. I think moving with you might be best as you will be more aware of changes in her health and be able to check frequently. As long as she goes straight in to her regular cage things should be OK. Have a new vet found so you can call on them as soon as you arrive if needed and try and use her scented bedding etc to travel in so she has familiar things and smells with her.
