Default Hamster fleecy hammock - is this safe?

I have seen a TeTupGa hamster hammock online with a fleecy (it says cotton) lining. It's the kind of thing Enigma would love, but I just wanted to check before I buy it that this kind of hammock is safe. (I know there is a problem with fluffy bedding, and never use that.) Would it be okay to give him this?

Many thanks in advance.

Definitely not. Any sort of fabric item isn't a good idea with hamsters unfortunately as they become harmful when chewed, and with hamsters they're basically guaranteed to get chewed.

Thanks for your advice. I will definitely avoid these!

I think it depends on the hamster and many of my Chinese Hamsters have had hammocks for years without there being any sign of chewing. A well made one has been designed to reduce the risks of chewing and I still have some of the Fuzzbutt Cage Conforts hammocks I bought several years ago.

If I give hammocks to my hamsters, I tend to be vigilant, checking for any sign of chewing on a daily basis and removing it if necessary but in most cases if I put some toilet tissue inside, they have been content to make a snuggly nest there without needing to chew the hammock itself.

Thanks so much for your feedback! Unfortunately, Enigma is a BIG chewer. She had a rosewood hanging tube kind of thing which she used a lot. Then suddenly more or less overnight, she chewed it all up into tiny pieces. So on balance, probably not the kind of ham to give a hammock to!

Ah yes, if she's a big chewer, I would definitely agree that fabric hammocks would not be the best idea for her.

I know you can buy these hammocks made out of a more natural material (I think it might be hay or something) that could be a safer option but given that she's a chewer, it might not last long.

Thanks, Fluffagrams, I will see I can find one of those. In the meantime he has another hanging rosewood tunnel, and hopped straight into it even as I hung it up for him. I'm also providing him with more chew sticks, in the hope that he might chew them and not the tunnel.
