Re: Exercise options for obese hamsters?
Hi BrainGirl - I got one of the collapsable playpens, which was great at first, until my hammie quickly worked out how to shimmy up the vertical bars, and get his chin over the top! They are good for a run-about but you have to watch them like a hawk, or they will lull you into a false sense of security and leap to freedom

Also, be careful about the corner where it slots together. Toffee learned very quickly how to lift up one side and unhook it. Now I use cable ties to fix the panels together at the top and bottom. Crafty critters, these hams!

Re: Exercise options for obese hamsters?
Yay! She's losing weight! I thought I noticed that she was less "squishy" when I picked her up and then my bf walked by and asked if she'd lost weight because she definitely looked slimmer! Amazing what a little healthy food and exercise can do. Maybe I should try it

If you still need ideas I put Snickers in my bath when it's empty and she will look around for a while then try to escape but where it's so steep she is just running on the spot, it keeps her quite fit.

Re: Exercise options for obese hamsters?
I put her in the tub last night and it was loads of fun. She did seem to be running on the spot and she didn't sit still for a minute. I think it's going to be the best tool in my weight control arsenal That and we added new tubes to her system!
