Default Infection

Hi, my little girl Tassen went to the vet a week a go. The vet noticed a infection in her lungs and started to give her anibiotic, unfortenally it have not worked, the vet also think she is a little thin, and the vet is thinking about how far we should take it as Tassen is about 1,5-2 years old. I feel so bad as I dont know what to do.
The vet told me that it would be taken test to find out what kind of bacteria it is, but because she is a small animal, it is impossible.
My thought is, should I let the vet take it far as possible? Should I let Tassen go?

I am sorry Tassen is unwell. I would look at her quality of life. Is she eating and drinking well? Does she seem happy? I think that helps when making a decision.

Maybe you could see a different vet for another opinion? There is more than one antibiotic they can have. However it may be that the antibiotic didn't work because there is no infection and the breathing difficulty is caused by something else (heart for example).

Sometimes also it needs longer than 1 week on an antibiotic to shift a tough infection. So I would maybe ask about extending the antibiotic longer, if it was only for a week (say two weeks total) or trying a different antibiotic. Extending it would be best first if she only had it a week. How much weight has she lost? Is she reasonably well otherwise and still eating and drinking? Are her teeth ok? Either way I'd give her softened food and fatten her up a bit with high calorie treats - unless she is not interested in them.

It is up to you how far you take it but I think I'd like to try the antibiotic a little longer. Is she a dwarf or a Syrian?

The vet is the only vet in the area who takes in hamsters. She does have a sound from the respiratory tract, I did film her and showed it to the vet. She have a weight at 35 gr. She is a dwarf. I might do take her uber out of the cage,so it becomes easier for me to look at her, how much she eats.

I would ask about continuing the antibiotics a bit longer. Some infections can take two weeks to shift.

I talked to the vet today, and it was decided to take pictures of Tassen to see if it is anything there are stuck, instead of giving antibiotics unnecssarily.
