She said it was likely to be a response to pain from his mouth area as he isn't scratching anywhere else and there's no other signs on him of any external parasite or any signs of allergies either.
He's been such a good little hammy with these vet trips and all sorts going on

Yes that makes sense. Does she know why he's in pain? Maybe that's normal after a tooth trim.

She just seemed to think it was from where his teeth were growing and a bit of soreness from that. I will be keeping a very close eye on him.

Luckily Metacam tastes sweet and hamsters like taking it. A few of my dwarfs were on it permanently and one saw it as a treat. He came out of his nest for it when called.

Update for today/yesterday: I gave him some mushed up peas (I know they're sugary but I just need him eating) and he loved that, ate about half the amount I gave him then over night had eaten or pouched the rest, this is good as I haven't seen him pouch anything or it means he was able to nibble a few of the bigger pieces.
Today he was very good for his medication again, which as you say is probably because it tastes nice! Then he had a few more bits of pea and some baby food. After this he had a little scratch but no way near as bad as he was on Thursday evening, yay!

The new food arrived today so I've soaked some of this and he's had a little nibble (like your hamster he normally comes out when I call him so I can show him new food!) But I'm not sure how much he likes it, good that he's eaten some though. He had some crushed dandelion leaves too.

The most important thing however is that I weighed him and he was 5g heavier than yesterday!! Now my scales could've been off, although I measured him with them on Thurs, or he could've had some food in his pouches but either way I am very pleased his weight is going in the right direction
Just got to get him eating properly!

Thank you for the update. It sounds like he's on the mend which is great news. You could also try him with a little porridge or scrambled egg without seasoning. I give ours some of our steamed vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, peas, carrot etc which is nice and soft. Main thing is that he's putting on weight and not losing it.

He doesn't like egg but he is a fan of vegetables so I will keep on with them. At the moment he is enjoying the baby food plus the soaked science diet, he's even starting to hold and nibble on the slightly bigger pieces which is really good. He's had some cheese today too, cut into small pieces he managed to nibble on them (he still can't manage to chew bigger chunks or long pieces of grated cheese). I hope he can go back to eating properly.

He's not put on any more weight since I last weighed him but he is looking better and less gaunt, plus I see him out and about quite often grabbing some food. He's also started using his sand bath as a toilet again which is a good sign as he was going in his bed before.
Still continues to be a model patient with the metacam dosing, he's a good boy.

He's making progress which is good news. Do you know how old he is?

He was born approximately June 2021 so about 16 months old. He's still not really eating properly but he's happy to lick up the soft food.

Every single one of my dwarf hybrids developed health issues at around 14/16 months and some stayed on metacam permanently.

Sadly, it's often down to poor genetics and all we can do is deal with health problems as and when they arise to make our little friends as comfortable as possible.

A soft diet can still give him all the nutrients he needs. Have you tried a small cube of tofu? He may like that. I buy the firm one.
