Thank you for your support. It means more than you could imagine. Unfortunately the operation wasn’t successful and Bogie passed away immediately after being cut open.

Shadow, I am so very sorry to hear this. I think this shows Bogie was very unwell not to be able to survive this. You did all you could for Bogie so never doubt that. Bogie will leave a gap in your heart as your bond was so very special.

I am thinking of you. Please use this forum for support because we understand what you are going through.

You really are amazing. You kept on taking Bogie to the vet and you tried everything possible for him. You are so strong to have done all this alone.

I realised he won't make it in the morning. He was weaker than he had ever been, even though we ate today and yesterday and drank and the vet gave him food and water before the operation too.
When he walked he just kept falling over and I have never seen him being so weak. Never.
I'm not going to beat myself over a fact that I didn't go to the vet immediately after I noticed that he doesn't eat his food, is hiding and only eats cucumbers and salads. The heating wasn't on yet and I was cold and so it made sense to me that Bogie is cold as well and is hiding himself in his nest and things will be better when they'll turn the heating on. The end result would've been most likely the same and it's better not to think about what I could've done differently. I must not always forget that Bogie had health issues ever since I got him and at least he didn't end up in some random home with 12 children, in a small cage and at least I tried my best and I think he was pretty pleased, because he was always nice and friendly towards me and often even licked my finger when I was petting him.
I think he was pleased and what's important is that he lived well and was loved. I tried my best to save his life but didn't manage to. I'll always love him and who knows, maybe someday we'll meet in heaven

ShadowNinja, I’m so very sorry to hear Bogie has passed away. You’ve done so much to help him over these past weeks whilst he’s been poorly. He knew he was dearly loved and you had cared for him and given him a great life since arriving with you, a bond that turned you into special friends. Run free at the rainbow bridge Bogie. He will forever be in your heart and mind.

Run free Bogie. I am surprised a vet would operate on such a sick hamster and didn’t give other options other than waiting for him to die or having surgery. But in a way the anaesthesia from surgery helped him on his way anyway.

I agree with what Serendipity has said and would like to add that this is not a vet i would go to.

I was pleased with the service though, but Bogie got weaker and weaker. Yesterday I thought we would've done the surgery immediately would've he survived? But I feel bad enough, so it's better not to torture myself and Bogie is in a better place.
A year ago I was at some vet that asked me: "What kind of animal is this?" Now this is the vet you don't want to go to. It's difficult to find a vet for rodents though and maybe the places where you live there are places you can go to if there's an emergency, but here you have to book everything and wait. At least the ones that agree to take rodents, so I totally understand if there are people that can't go to the vet immediately and as Serendipity said there's no point to drive 60-70km to a vet.

Thank you. I really hope he was pleased with most of his life and I hope he'll forgive me for the end, but next time I'll know better.

You did everything you could and Bogie knew you were there for him caring everyday. Sometimes our pets are just too poorly to be made better. I realise it’s a very sad time, but try to focus on all the nice times you shared together.
