Hamsters new noise
Hi my Roborovski Hamster started to make a noise, in the year we have a him this is the first time he's done this, he's doing it nearly all the time, he's eating and drinking and running on his wheel ok, does not appear to have any lumps or bumps, has not had any accidents, is it because he's in pain

Re: Hamsters new noise
did you happen to move or change the cage he's staying in? or maybe add something new to the cage? i know stress or nervousness or excitement can make hamsters vocalize sometimes
i would definitely monitor his behavior and i would personally call a vet to ask, especially if he's never made sounds like that before.
i hope everything is alright, and hopefully some more people on here will give you advice too

Re: Hamsters new noise
Could it be his breathing? I was wondering if he had a URI. He is beautiful by the way.

That's what i was wondering as well. Could he have a cold or an upper respiratory infection like cloudy said. I'd make a vet appointment which you could always cancel should he stop making those noises.

Re: Hamsters new noise
Thanyou, is there anything I can do to make him more comfortable in the meantime before I can get him seen. would a steamy room help, and is it treatable. He was still doing it this morning, but is not at the min, my daughter comes to visit tomorrow with her partner whos training to be a vet, if he says he should go to the vet I'll take him.

Re: Hamsters new noise
it is treatable. He will need antibiotics. I would make an appointment with a vet as soon as possible for him. I am sure other members will have different ideas from me too.

Re: Hamsters new noise
The vet could not find anything obvious, they think it might be some discomfort from his joints, so we are trying him with pain meds for a couple of days to see if it helps.

Re: Hamsters new noise
I am sorry to hear this. If he has arthritis luckily pain relief will make him feel more comfortable.
