Update: I’ve been giving icy the enrofloxacin (baytril) antibiotics, and she’s been very good about taking them

Her swelling hasn’t gone down but she’s still acting happy and active

Im starting to think now that she might be constipated now somehow? Her poop ever since the swelling started has looked somewhat dry and small, and now it’s gotten worse

I’m going to ask her vet for advice in the morning, but I don’t think that’s a side effect of the antibiotic and I’m wondering if I can do anything to help her with that or why it could be happening

If you’re giving the antibiotics it’s important she has a full course. Ie a full dose daily and for at least 7 days. Some infections take longer - up to two weeks. If it’s not a full course it can lead to a worsening infection as the bugs become resistant. It’s a bit like an ongoing battle for the first few days - the antibiotics fight the bugs - the bugs fight back. With continuous medication the antibiotics get the upper hand. If stopped too soon the bugs keep getting stronger and then the antibiotics don’t work any more.

You probably know all that! If after 7 days there’s no improvement it’s safe to stop the antibiotics but giving them a bit longer would help see if they’re going to give an improvement.

You can give probiotics at the same time or just afterwards which helps their gut after the antibiotics. I tend to do it after the course rather than during.

I don’t think constipation would cause swelling like that - but the swelling could be leading to constipation if it’s pressing on her intestines. You could try giving her extra veg maybe. Main thing is she is still pooping whether they’re dry or not. They do have two different types of poops - one type they can eat the other type not. One type is very dry - like hard seeds almost. The other type is softer. So as long as she’s pooping I wouldn’t worry too much.

Is she having Metacam as well?

She has been having more vegetables than often (especially with her medicine) and yes I’m going to give her a full treatment of antibiotics (the vet said for 2 weeks)

It was kinda a hard choice but I didn’t feel the metacam was necessary at the moment because of the risks combined with how she didn’t seem to be feeling bad enough to affect her quality of life and carried on acting like normal. But I do have some at home in case she seems to start feeling bad

Two weeks sounds good. If it's a tough infection it can take 10 days to 2 weeks before anything is noticed. Sounds like a good move in case its pyometra. If it isn't well perhaps nothing much will change.
