Default Hamsters and fleas

Recently my cat escaped for a few hours and came home with fleas. We want to use there products to treat them. https://amzn.eu/d/6YaM4V6 I'm worried about Pascal, i can temporarily have him stay with a family member (Pascal doesnt have fleas just the cats) but I know that that will be so stressful for him so want to avoid it if possible. Will putting him in a room with the doors closed, blanket at the bottom of the door and windows open be ok? I dont want to stress him out too much. If anyone else has had expirince treating fleas in the home while having a hamster how long did you wait after the trearment to bring the hamster back out again. Thank you.

I would think it best to take Pascal to a family member for a few days and treat everywhere in the home in one go, as soon as you can. It can be tricky to get rid of fleas once they have laid eggs, and their larvae can feed on pretty much anything, unlike the adult blood suckers themselves. So i would be concerned about leaving any trace of them that could lead to an infestation in the cage. Although most hamsters don't like being moved around too much, they usually cope with it a bit. Mine have all been fine going to a friend's house for a few days or a week, when I've gone on holiday. Transporting them in a safe carrier with some of their bedding in helps them feel secure. And as I'm assuming you'll be taking his cage with you too, he will have his familiar home to live in while he's there. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Hey MeganLouise, sorry to hear this, but pleased your cat came home. I’ve no experience of using flea treatments but perhaps a call to your local vet and they may advise on a treatment that won’t harm other animals in your home? Guess there is always risk though.

If you were considering moving him……. Our Syrian hamster recently went to my mums house whilst we were on holiday. It’s only a 10min drive, we took his cage/home with us and she kept his routine as normal as possible and he was fine with the surrounding change. He’s quite a relaxed hamster and he does hear my mums voice in our house so guessing that helped too.
