Wart/grey mark?
Hello everyone. I’m new to the community so I hope I’ve done this right! Bruno is about 6 months old and over the past week I’ve noticed a grey mark/lump on his face and nose. I’ve tried researching online but I can’t find anything similar! I can’t tell if it is a lump or scab or just his fur as he has been changing to a lighter colour with the warmer weather. I have attached a picture. Does anyone know what this is or if you’ve seen it before? His behaviour is completely normal and I’ve noticed he is still grooming his face so I don’t think it is hurting him and he’s not itching either. Do you think we need to see a vet? Thanks in advance!

Re: Wart/grey mark?
It doesn't look normal but it could be that he's been chewing/gnawing something and rubbed away the fur in that area. Try to find out if that's the case because he might rub the skin raw if it is.
Another guess might be some kind of fungal infection or parasite infestation, which would need veterinary treatment.
Facial grooming can be a sign of pain or itching, especially if it's excessive.

Re: Wart/grey mark?
I found it difficult to tell from the photo. Is it a raised lump? Does he bar chew? It's common for hamsters to get sores or rubbed fur in the nose area if they bar chew. It might be that. If it's not that it would be best to get it checked by a vet - but find an exotic vet in the area - they know more about hamsters.
What cage is he in? Hamsters often try and escape at night and can bar chew, especially if the cage is on the small side.

Re: Wart/grey mark?
Hello and welcome to HC!
Bruno is a lovely looking hamster.
There seems to be a slight thinning of fur on the other side of the nose as well which would indicate a bar rub but it is hard to tell from the photo.
If you can't find an environmental cause, i'd get him checked out by a hamster knowledgeable or exotics vet.
I also have a brown Syrian hamster whose fur has become a lot lighter. I wonder if he's going to change back to dark brown again.
