Re: Hamster has one red eye, one black.
I haven’t heard of them either - I’m assuming they’re disinfectants. Safe4pets is good in that respect. Cypher used to recommend it (it is also odourless).
Yes - vet disinfectants . Just googled them. Our vet recommended Beaphar deep clean for small animals. After the moth outbreak she said to leave it on the cage for some time, soaking it.
Engel is spot on about quarantining.

Virkon is a disinfectant. I use it too. It kills just about everything and is also very safe, and much nicer to use than bleach (no headache inducing fumes). It comes as a powder that you mix with water.
The pet shop disinfectants are very weak and shouldn't be relied upon when you actually want to disinfectant things. They're fine for ordinary cleaning, almost like a soap substitute, but a lot of germs just aren't touched by them.

I have never heard of virkon and F10.
Is this something a vet prescribes as a preventive measure, if yes, how is it administered?

They're both disinfectants. I buy the F10sc concentrate, that way I can have it as strong as I need for cleaning the cage/items during quarantine period, illness or during the wake of an op. It's just really useful to have. Spray the solution and wait a couple of minutes, then wipe. F10 can be used in a nebuliser for resp/heart issues (under vets recommendations). I think Luna used it for moonbeam but could be wrong.

Yes (sorry to hog your thread Heidi) F10 is what i used with moonbeam, but i believe the strength depends on your hamsters weight
it's what vets use themselves to wipe things down etc

if using for breathing problems you dilute it and use it in a nebuliser. you can buy it yourself, don;t need a prescription but i think the amount you use depends on weight of animals- not sure
it can also be used to wipe things down with - vets use it in their clinics

Appreciate the help guys! I will be taking the little guy to the vets. It doesn't seem to be a scent gland, and the eye is most definitely red in all lightings.
