Hamster making a squeaking noise?
Ive had Pascal for a few months now, he is a rusian dwarf. A few moments ago I heard him making a soft sqeaking noise from inside his burrow, i tried calling his name a few times but he didnt come out like he usually does. The noises were like a soft chittering / sqeaking or humming noise not the loud squaki g noises i know that syrian hamsters can do when theyre scared or in pain. I slowly removed the bedding that was on top of him until he poked his head out at me he came out of his den and let me pick him up while he continued to make the noises. He ate some mealworms and i gave him some fresh food whitch he ate. Im just worried that he could be sick or hurt. Hes currently on his wheel so i dont think that his feet or legs are hurting. He stopped making the noise once he woke up properly and is acting like nothings happened he is eating and drinking normally and hes on his wheel. Does anyone know if its normal for them to make this noise? Ive never heard him make it before so im worried. The vets in my area are closed until the morning. Thank you and sorry for any spelling mistakes.

Re: Hamster making a squeaking noise?
Maybe he was just having a dream? Our robo did this recently after he was out of the cage and in the playpen and in a hide. I still don't know if it was fear, annoyance or just "seeing anything off" that might be in the vicinity. Like with you, once I lifted the hide off him, he stopped doing it.
If Pascal was in his nest he was probably having a dream (chasing a giant cricket or something!).

Re: Hamster making a squeaking noise?
I’ve only had Syrian hamsters, but all 6 of mine have made squeaking noises on occasion. Similar to what you described: smaller quicker noises instead of the loud noises of fear or pain
I would just pay attention to whether your hamster continues doing it and whether any other symptoms appear
meanwhile, it wouldn’t hurt to ask the vet about it when they open in case it might mean something else, but squeaking isn’t necessarily a bad sign
I wish the best of luck to you and your hamster
