Couldn't the people who approached you looking for hamsters buy those advertised on pets4homes?

I've acted as a middle person before. I knew of someone suitable looking to adopt a hamster and i knew of a suitable hamster waiting to be adopted in a rescue.

I brought the two parties together resulting in a hamster finding a lovely forever home. It's all about the hamsters in the end.

I do this often myself, but the people who have this litter are in Plymouth. Equally, I don't want anyone supporting byb. It may promote them to breed again, and make more special needs hamsters, subject more hamsters to living in that poor cage, etc. In the very least if they come to me, they will have lost money & know to avoid doing this for next time.

Be careful, nothings free. You may end up paying for a lot of poorly hamsters

I know? That's why I do it, because no one else in my area can. I don't do this lightly, I have Pico who was initially temporary but later found he has some sort of brain damage (I assume as a result of excessive stress, being chased by a large dog, etc.) who know has a whole setup and is staying with me permanently.

But I thought you said you didn't have a job? How are you going to care for them all especially if they are brachys you can't re-home them. I'm not refering to the cost of running a cage but the vets bills.

If I'm being honest I can't see the story of an 18 year old accidentally putting 2 solitary hamsters of the opposite sex together because they're friend said it was ok being true. It sounds like someone trying to make some quick cash.

Your own hamsters should be your priority (making sure they're happy, healthy and you have money for vet care). How's the lid coming along?

Please remember you can't save them all, it's an impossible job.

It is hard to say from those photos if they are brachy or not. If they are then their health care can cost a lot, they can have lots of issues and may die young. It's really not something to take on lightly. If this is something you want to get involved in I would ask for clearer pictures.
Also highly recommend Munchies Place YouTube channel if you haven;t checked it out already, she is a rescue that sadly has a lot of experience with brachy hamsters.

I left my full time job, yes. I don't see how that would mean I don't have savings, however. Equally, leaving a full time job doesn't prevent me from my other sources of income. I have had special needs and sickly animals for over a decade and as a result, have spent money on their medications and surgeries. My hamsters are happy and healthy. They have large homes and their lids are fine. Thank you for your concern on my care and responsibility for my animals, however they are all fine and taken care of.

I understand I "can't save them all", hence why I only keep to my area, in which, there are few hamsters that need rescuing. If I have the funding, knowledge and space to take in an animal, then I will.

I've watched her Youtube channel which is why I first noticed that the hamsters looked a bit odd. If I do take in a hamster or more and they die young, at least they can have a good slice of life in which I can provide.

What is byb? I was going to ask what Brachy was as well but see Luna has added a link that explains that.

I would definitely get the one you posted the photo of. It would be awful to think of that possibly special needs hamster being sold on P4H and going to the wrong type of owner.

There is a lot of factors. He COULD be a brachy, or he could just have a lot of baby fluff on his forehead, making his features relatively seamless. He wouldn't be an extreme case of brachy (if you could say that). Usually their eyes bulge a bit, but it would be hard to tell with even photos.

BYB is just short for Backyard Breeder. It is the unethical breeding of hamsters. On another thread we are talking about Pedigree hamsters and if they hold the same unethical standpoint.
