Oh and he has been tiny since I got him. He eats normal ham mix, a white drop sometimes, some woodlands treats, some fresh fruit and veg, never has the runs.. why is he so tidgy? x

Is he from a pet store chain? - they tend to be alot smaller in general, because of the way that they are bred, as long as he is happy and healthy I wouln't worry too much.

In fact the other day I was in a local independant pet store, where a family were looking at the hams, and they said that the hams were weird, and huge, and scary, and declared that they were going to the well known chain store to get a smaller 'cuter' one.

60g is small however if he is healthy and active it may just be the way he is. He may have been the runt of the litter and though they sometimes catch up they can remain small all their lives.
It may be an idea to check his teeth to make sure he is able to eat properly.
I would be inclined to increase his proteins by feeding one of these - plain chicken, tofu, boiled egg white and cheese every second day. Just a little finger nail sized piece.
Runts often live longer that bigger hamsters.

Hehe! Thanks chaps. I rather fear checking his nashers, he doesn't like being picked up in a grabby fashion, so I can imagine him getting rather mean if I get his scruff - but I'll give it a whirl. He quite happily sat in my hand last night and ate a treat, seemed to be no problem, hmm. I'll up his protein, I was giving him a tiny nibble of cheese once a fortnight, but he can have a wee bit more.

Christ I do panic. I was a little drunk too.. Ahem. x

Right, Chewy has been out for five minutes (try not to bother him too much in the afternoons, but he was up). He was lovely about me checking his teeth - he's so placid, the silly fluffball! His scruff was tricky to get hold of, there is nothing but fluff on the guy. His teeth look fine from what I saw, but he is really skinny. Given him a little chunk of cheese and his fruit mix (a fruitier hamster mix I get from Jollyes, which he prefers, I think, to the normal one).

Might get him some baby food on my way home from hospital later. x

Give the extras every second day now. He is very young still and needs it to grow. They do sometimes have a sudden growth spurt. Our little Runty was about half the size of the others but he did get to 120g when he was 6 months
