Default Pregnancy concern

My rescue hamster Romy has expanded since she's lived here and looks like a pudding.

Ok, no one loses weight in this house and Romy has been food orientated from day one. She spends a lot of time on her wheel at night going by the state of it in the morning so she does get plenty of exercise.

It's been 23 days since her rescue but i'm not sure when she's in the clear. I don't know her back ground which doesn't help.

Could i have reason to be worried after 23 days?

Romy is a dwarf hybrid of unknown age.

Meant to add today's photo of Romy with full pouches.

As a comparison. That's her on arrival.

I wouldn’t honestly know for sure. Is Romy one originally from the rescue or are you fostering until someone rescues her? I only say because if they’ve held her for some time then should definitely be in the all clear since they normally go on pregnancy watch there. 23 days may be safe to say you’re in the clear, but honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if a day or two after the maximum range some babies could pop out.

I wouldn’t know for sure :/

I think if it's 23 days she's not pregnant. I believe gestation is 18-21 days. She's probably just filled out! Looking at the first photo she did look a bit bony on top on arrival. You'll find out soon though! If you look at her sides can you see any bean shapes? Although I think there isn't much to see with dwarf hamsters.

Dwarfs look like eggs. I had no idea Gertie was carrying 8 babies! She looks just as round now.

I just picked Romy up and had a look at her belly. It looks normal and she didn't bite me which i think a pregnant hamster would.

I think after Gertie's pregnancy i'm a bit paranoid and prefer to foster male hamsters. Doesn't always work that way.

It has been known for some species of dwarf hamsters to 'suspend' preganancy and therefore it has been known for pregnancy to last up to 25 days so I would always err on the side of caution.

Thank you for the info of a timescale. That's exactly what happened with my dwarf Gertie who had a suspended pregnancy.

Romy is on day 24 now so will be in the clear by next week, all going well.

Fingers crossed. It is maybe unlikely if she was not kept with other hamsters previously - it sounded like the woman only had the one hamster she was trying to get rid of - but then you don't know the back story I guess. I think some of these back street breeders dump hamsters when they're no good for breeding any more.
