Our Hamster Died Suddenly
Hello All
Last night me and my girlfriends hamster Tarquin died suddenly. He only just turned one years old.
He didnt always have an easy life, missing his top incisors, they never came through. This required regular vets trips for teeth trimming. He was an expensive hamster, but it didnt matter. He was well loved and cared for and we will miss him terribly.
Late yesterday I went to the spare room to sort some bits. As usual Tarquin would come out to say hello and to come out and try and score a treat. I had him out for five minutes giving him a hug. He was his usual happy self. I put him back in cage. He then turned around looked at me and then back round. He stumbled to one side. Stopped for a second then jumped stormed around cage and then slumped on saw dust with laboured breathing then died.
Shocked and sad. We only had him in vets monday for teeth trimming and check up. Vet said he was very healthy and friendly.
Has anyone had something like this?. Just at a loss…
Feels like last night when he came out, he knew and he came out for last cuddle and to say good bye.

Re: Our Hamster Died Suddenly
I'm so sorry for your loss. He sounds like a very special little hammy and much loved.
It does sound as if he suffered a very sudden hear attack or stroke. These conditions are not uncommon in hamsters and sadly they cross over in a flash.
I'm sure they do wait to say goodbye and it was a blessing he passed so quickly with no pain.
It can be stressful having frequent vet care but they do adjust quickly and you did your best for him giving him every chance. Sometimes we have to accept that it was his time and that he had the best life possible and reflect on the good memories.
Run free at the bridge Tarquin x

I am so sorry for your loss. Play well at the bridge, Tarquin.
Yes, i do believe that Tarquin knew that his time had come and said good bye to you.
I had similar experiences with our hamsters.
We are their human life companions and they love us in their own unique ways.
Tarquin was loved and well cared for and you were with him to the end which must have been comforting for him.

Agree - they know and give you a look to say goodbye - I've also had that experience. I am so sorry for your loss. At least it was mercifully quick and he passed ast home in his familiar surroundings but it is never easy. He is playing free over the rainbow bridge now.

Re: Our Hamster Died Suddenly
I am so sorry to hear about Tarquin. He was clearly a much loved ham and had wanted to say his goodbyes. It is so hard when they leave us but take comfort in knowing that he was loved and he knew it. Play well at the bridge little one x
