Fur thinning
Hi!
I'm just after some advice, I've noticed recently that the hair around my hamsters face seems to have thinned out and his skin looks a little bit red sometimes. (I've attached pictures but they're not the best)
I bought some carefresh bedding that I usually get and I noticed that it felt more rough and was a slightly different colour to usual so I'm not sure if they've changed it in some way and when he's been burrowing it's caused irration on his face.
He's only 9 months old and he's still his usual self but I just wondered if it could be something else? I read that their hair can thin around this time of year but find it odd it's just mainly around his face.
Is there anything I can give him to help it grow back a bit? I've seen that flaxseed is supposed to be good for that.
I've also bought the carefresh confetti bedding which felt a lot softer than the plain brown coloured one, so hopefully that will help as well.
Thanks

Re: Fur thinning
Yes, flaxseeds or brown linseeds are good for fur and skin I give all my hamsters a pinch daily.
I think that your hamster needs to be seen by a vet because his skin looks red. I have no idea what the cause could be but i'd get him checked out.
Kaytee clean and cozy is far softer than Carefresh and works out cheaper when bought in the 85l bag. It expands a lot so goes further.

Re: Fur thinning
I’ve also heard Fitch bedding is good but I’d need confirmation of this to be 100% sure.
Also, I’m no expert but if it is just thinning, you can get vit-mins for hamsters (vitamins) and a lot of reviews say it helps with fur thinning.
If there is sign of irritation in anyway though maybe a vet visit is needed as Ria has said.
