Exclamation not chewing on wood for his teeth!

Hello everyone, my hamster ( Peanut ), has been chewing on his plastic cage for some time now. I have given him wooden hides and toys, but he doesn’t interact with them. I just took a look at his teeth while he was sleeping and they touch to where he’s unable to fully close his mouth, i’m really concerned his teeth are hurting him and idk how to help him. He will be sleeping or just randomly get up and start biting the plastic to file his teeth or just put pressure on the pain, please help thank you!
P.S. i am transferring him to a bigger and non plastic cage within the next week and he just recieved a new wooden house today that he enjoys but doesn’t snack on. I have some knowledge to where I know that if his mouth is unable to fully close, his teeth are getting too long. I’m just looking for anyone who may of had the same issues and got things to work out.

Hello and welcome to HC!

A visit to the vet to have his teeth checked and trimmed if needed is the only thing i can suggest.

I know this is much later but I was searching forums for another answer to a different topic.

Definitely if they’re too long you’ll need a vet as they can grow into the gums and bend and all this.

But as some advice I’ve never had much luck with just wood sticks. Smearing peanut butter apparently helps but the best thing I found were seed blocks and whimzees dog chews. Since they’re actually tough food it attracts them, but also wear their teeth down. It really helped!
