Swollen red nose?
Hello, yesterday I noticed my 2 month old winter white dwarf hamster looks like she has a swollen red nose, and some fur loss to the sides of the nose.
What could be causing this?
She is in an ikea detolf enclosure, with a mixed paper bedding and hay substrate, lots of wooden furniture and a sandbox among other usual hamster things.
Looking back at the photos it's been looking redder for a week. The only things I've changed since a week ago have been adding a new wooden hide, adding a Kapok seed bedding pod, and introducing some new strawberry biscuit treats.
Could it be an allergy to any of these things?
I might just be a bit paranoid but I don't want to overlook it in case it's something serious!

Re: Swollen red nose?
It does look quite swollen. I'd start by removing all the new things.
The Kapok pods are not safe regardless of what they say. It's like cotton wool inside and it can cause bowel blockage. It's not digestable and absorbs fluid.
If it doesn't stop after that then I'd have this checked by a vet. The wooden hides can have splintering wood and can cause issues too.

Thank you, I will remove the pod immediately then, and check if there are any rough bits of wood.
