irritated eye and long tooth advice needed!
Misty
Russian Dwarf Hamster
3 Months of Age
Last weekend I noticed that one of Mistys eye has pink skin around it and she wasnt opening it as much as her other eye, i took her to the Vets and they prescribed Isathal to her, ive been trying to give her these eye drops everyday but its really really difficult to get any in her eye since she doesnt sit still and the angle at which she is eating its hard to get the drops in, ive managed to get some around the area and hoped whilst she wipes it some gets in her eye but yeah i'm alone and dont have help either - its been 5 days now and the skin is still pink around her eye. It hasnt gotten any worse but hasn't gotten better either. The vets wanted to give something stronger with steroids but I refused as I wasn't 100% sure if this was safe as of yet. She told me to wipe her eye with some chamomile to see if that helps.
Another thing she noticed is that one of her teeth is getting too long and to fix this they want to sedate Misty but because Misty is so small, she only weighs around 25g atm they are bit concerned and so are going to give me a call back. I asked for her teeth to be checked as Misty doesn't chew anything, i've put a wide variety of chew toys, whimzees and she doesn't touch any of it. If anyone has suggestions on anything else i could try i'd really appreciate it.
I rang around my area and found some Vets that have handled hamsters a bit more and made an appointment for Wednesday - i mentioned the tooth thing and they said they would also do it via the sedation method.
Misty is still eating/drinking/playing on her wheel fine.
Any help would be super appreciated it, she is only 3 months of age and I just want her to be as comfortable/happy as possible.
Ive left a picture of her eye in the attachments! Thanks

Re: irritated eye and long tooth advice needed!
A hamster can develop an eye infection fairly easy. It can be from dirty bedding, which can be avoided by cleaning the hamster’s cage one per week.
It can also happen because of a stray bacteria on the hamster’s food, for example on a piece of apple or broccoli. Or it could be from many other reasons. For the most part, an infection can be noticed if the eye is red, puffy, hot to the touch. If there is oozing and pus, you can be sure it’s infected.saline solution for your hamster:
250 ml/8.45 fl oz distilled water
2.5 g/0.008 oz table salt
2.5 g/0.008 oz baking soda
very clean pot, washed with very hot water and soap beforehand
sterile glass jar or cup to keep the saline solution in
a set of clean cotton pads or cotton buds
You need to get her to a vet asap whether the saline wrks or not!
! The vet will probably trim her teeth/tooth after you need to make sure hes got plenty of nawable toys to prevent this!
