Default what else can I feed a hamster with diarrhea/can I clean her bum

Hello, new hamster owner here. my kids were over zealous with feeding her cucumber and strawberries 3 days in a row - my fault I didn't know any better - and now she's had a sore bottom for almost 2 weeks now.

I read some other posts about this and wondering if there are other foods I can give her to help like we would in humans, banana? egg whites (cooked I assume), oatmeal (raw quick oats or cooked with water?)

also, can I clean her bum area? it does look quite sore. we have waterless shampoo, or i was thinking a warm water soaked cotton ball on the area? baby oil?

Ruled out wet tail as this has been about 2 weeks, plus she's eating and drinking and exploring as normal.

Store associate at Pet Valu asked if there was anything protruding in the area, and at closer look I think there is. But not sure what that means. Attached photo for reference.

Peaches is 9 months old, and eating a seed/nut mix.

Hello and welcome

Oh poor peaches, she certainly looks very sore under there! It has been a while now and i don't think the strawberries and cucumber would be causing that. Deff a vet visit asap! Make sure she is well hydrated poor little lady,

Keep us updated

Agree. It needs looking at by a vet. I can't tell what it is but may be a prolapse. It needs to be an exotic vet really as they know more about hamsters.

In terms of "binding" foods, yes hamsters can have the odd bit of banana or scrambled egg Just a tiny amount - maybe a little bit on the edge of a teaspoon for the scrambled egg. Just fork whisk an egg in a mug and add a bit of water, then microwave it - better done with water than milk as they don't tolerate dairy products well. I can't remember how long I microwave it - but maybe check every 10 to 20 seconds as its such a small amount. Let it cool before giving it as well. Banana - just cut a slice of banana and give about a quarter of the slice.

She still needs a vet to look at the back end though.

A visit to the vet is the only advisable course of action here. Poor Peaches must be in a lot of discomfort.
Hamsters are very good at hiding pain.

I took one of my hamsters to the vet recently and wished i would have taken him as soon as i noticed something wrong instead of waiting to see if things would improve hence my urgency to get her seen and treated asap.

In terms of cleaning her bum - hamsters do a good job of keeping themselves clean but of it is stuck up with diarrhoea then saline would probably be best - or just tepid water. But it loooks so sore I’d be careful - she might not let you of it’s really painful.

So tepid water - like for babies. Cooler better than warmer. Saline - a teaspoonful of salt dissolved in a pint of boiling water. Then let it go cold.

Also you don’t want to get the hamster really wet as they’re not good at regulating body temperature of wet and can catch a chill and die. So just slightly damp - maybe a corner of a microfibre soft cloth.

But the priority is to get her to a vet ASAP as it probably is a prolapse caused by the diarrhoea and the blood supply could get cut off to tissue. Also she could get dehydrated very quickly with diarrhoea. The vet might prescribe something. A prolapse can be fixed. My OH is a farmer and sheep get them - he has to just push it back in and put a couple of stitches in to hold it there. But that’s for a prolapsed uterus and Peaches is possibly prolapsed bowel. But hard to tell.

How old is Peaches?
