Default Blood in urine?

(Photo attached)
I have just found this where Loki, my dwarf normally pees. I'm pretty sure it's blood although it is not a dark red colour, more of a pink colour. This is the first time I have seen it like this and yesterday when I had him out he did a little pee on the floor and it was completely normal.
I have checked him all over and he appears fine. Should i just keep a close eye on things or take him to the vets tomorrow?
I remember Roly did a strange coloured pee once but think it may have been because of a coloured treat he ate and it was just a one off. This looks definitely more pinky though which is worrying.
Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks

If you are sure that it is blood and not from something he has eaten then i'd email the photo to the vet and ask for advice.
It is a very small amount though and i think that there would be more if he had an urinary tract infection.

Red berries leave stains like that. I got caught out by a tiny piece of strawberry once thinking that my hamster had taken ill.

Thanks Ria. I can't think of anything he had yesterday that would turn his pee this colour. He definitely didn't have any fruit, only a small piece of egg white and some cucumber along with his usual food.
I will see what his pee is like first thing in the morning and email the photo to our vets.

I meant that the strawberry itself left a stain. It wouldn't colour pee. I think only beetroot does.

It's probably nothing but i'm like that and worry when i find something that isn't quite right. Where the hamsters are concerned anyway.

Just a little update...

I found a very small amount of orange/pink coloured substrate on his wooden shelf so I sent a couple of photos to the vets. I was advised by the receptionist that I would have to make an appointment as they can't give medical advice out over emails.
I am going to monitor him for the next 24 hours as I really don't want to stress him out unnecessarily as in himself he appears well and is definitely eating.
Fingers crossed it is nothing to worry about, but if I find anymore I will take him the vets tomorrow.

Fingers crossed you won't find anymore and it's just one of those one off mysteries we sometimes come across with our hamsters.

Hi, sorry me again!
The urine was a much lighter shade of orange today, so I'm thinking now that maybe it wasn't blood a couple of days a go. I wonder if it was to do with something he has eaten?!
If it was a UTI would they continue to pee blood?
Thank for you help.

I don't know the answer and can only go by my own hamsters, two of whom had peed blood. Syrian Henry R.I.P. who had suspected bladder stones and was treated with metacam and dwarf Edwina who had suspected cystitis which was also treated with metacam. She's still on it for other health issues. It flared up a second time but the metacam stopped it. I don't know if it would have continued if left untreated but i guess so.

Both hamsters bled a lot more than Loki and i was in no doubt that it was blood. I emailed photos to their vet and arranged an appointment for a telephone consultation.

Telling you all this is not going to help you but i really can't say whether it is caused by something he has eaten or possibly a medical problem.

All i can advise is that, if you think it is blood then i'd get him checked out by a vet. I think it's a bit of a myth that hamsters get stressed by a visit to the vet. I've taken three of our lot sofar and they all got over it.

Rolyrocks, yes they can continue to bleed with a UTI, I would suggest as you have seen tainted bedding a few times now it is probably worth a visit to the vets, unless you can put it down to a specific food source. Like Ria says I think hamsters don't always get as stressed as we think they might by going to the vets.

I hope you can get an answer and get him sorted. Goodluck

Thank you very much for all your advice.
Are there any particular foods that can cause their urine to change colour?
Perhaps it would be best for him to have a check up. I was worried about the stress but you have both reasurred me that it shouldn't upset him too much. I know they should be, but are vets very clued up on hamsters? I'm guessing they dont see them very often.
