Default Eye problem

My hamster Icicle frequently started waking up with one of her eyes shut with what I assume is the equivalent to humans getting sand in their eyes overnight. It only happens in her right eye, and she always fixes it herself after a little while awake. I was wondering why this is happening, if there is any way I can help her a little faster, or if maybe her bedding could be irritating it and I should try a different brand? Other than this she is young and active and has no other problems.

My little guy has just started doing this as well. Just like yours, he has woken up with one of his eyes closed or mostly closed and he's always fixed it so far. The sites I found all referred to this as sticky eye. From what I found for mine, it seems to be because he's getting older. Mine is almost 2 years old, so maybe it could be age-related with yours as well. Of course, make sure you are keeping the bedding clean and that it isn't anything that could easily get stuck in her eyes. From what I know it should not be of too much concern if there is no redness, swelling, bulging, and if they can fix it themselves.

Here are the sources if you want to check them out yourself!

Like Dorian says can happen in older hamsters but It happened with mine when I tried white carefresh, far too dusty. I swopoed the bedding and it stopped.

Thank you everyone, yes the carefresh white bedding is the new one I just bought. I’ve switched back to her old kind today and I’ll see if that helps
