Sudden jumping - unsure why
I’ve had this little guy for about 5 days - he seemed very bright and happy until last night/this morning. Needless to say I’m very worried as this has come out of nowhere!
He’s jumping constantly (like something is making him jump even when everything is perfectly quiet) and you can hear him making distressed squeaks. It’s like it’s involuntary - he’s even tried to eat and drink and in the middle of it, he’s jumped and it interrupts him.
He’s a baby - I’ve never experienced anything like this and I don’t want him to be suffering... Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Re: Sudden jumping - unsure why
What type of hamster is it you have?
There are some neurological conditions that can cause this sort of issue so if it seems to be uncontrollable then a vet visit would be advised to see if there is something wrong. Ear infections could also be a cause and these are treatable.

Re: Sudden jumping - unsure why
He’s a Syrian hamster - unfortunately the vet found no evidence of ear infection, and so presumed it was neurological... The flipping onto his back uncontrollably also sadly turned out to be seizures (confirmed by a glucose test) and the vet suggested he be euthanised (was the last thing I wanted to do but I had to agree that he was suffering and that wouldn’t have been right)
I appreciate your time to answer
