Need help wither old constipated Syrian hamster
Our dear Syrian has been unwell for the last wee weeks but not surprised as he is 2 anda half years old. One day he was just panting and started chewing on his plastic toilet. He stopped drinking water imediately and barely left his house. We haven't fed him anything different so I doubt it was something he ate. We give him fresh veg or fruit every day and he never had any health issues. Since then he has recovered somewhat. I have been putting water in a little cap by his door and he is drinking very small amounts bot nowhere near enough. A couple of weeks ago I noticed his dropping were very hard and looked like shards, chunks of undigested food. I realised he is constipated and helped him release some of the poo, I'm not too proud to say. But in the past week there has been almost no dropping in the cage and his belly is swollen, so obviously full of poo. I want help the poor guy have some release. Any foods you can recommend that can help? Should I stop with his dry food and only give him veg and fruit? Shall I try giving him water with a seringe? Vet is a bit hard to get to and at the hamster's age I doubt he'll do anything. Any help would be appreciated

I'd get him to the vet asap because he could be in a lot of pain and discomfort.

Re: Need help wither old constipated Syrian hamster
He needs to see a vet as it sounds as if he has either a tumour or fluid in his abdomen stopping things moving through. Due to their diets hamsters don't tend to get constipated unless there is an underlying cause so he really needs seen by a vet.
