Default Hamster Keeps Biting Her Own Tail/Chewing Off Tip Of Tail

Hello! I posted here a few months ago back in October about how my hamster, Poob, suffered from a stroke. She has since recovered almost completely, being able to run on her wheel, dig, feed herself, and generally behaving completely normally. The only part of her that never fully recovered is her tail.

Poob is a Chinese Dwarf so her tail is a bit longer and it sort of hung slightly limp however it doesn't affect her balance while walking or running. I noticed about 2 weeks ago the very tip of her tail was gone and she had some blood on it. I cleaned her tail up and put antibiotic ointment twice a day for about a week and the tiny wound healed completely and she seemed to be back to normal.

However yesterday, I saw more blood on her tail with tiny bite marks on it and her tail seemed a bit shorter. I want to get in contact with a vet in my area to ask what to do. But in the mean time, is there anything I can do to keep her from chewing more of her tail off? I have been giving her extra toys to chew on to try to distract her and I have been cleaning her tail/ applying ointment on her twice a day.

Has anyone else had this problem? I think because her tail is paralyzed she might not feel it when she chews on her tail but I don't want her to be in any pain.

Poob is a little over two years old and her poop/pee is looking completely normal. I have been using the same kind of bedding her whole life and haven't changed her diet.

Thank you for the advice in advance.

You do need to have her checked out again. It sounds like she can feel some irritation / sensation that she doesn't understand so is biting at the tail. The worry is infection in the bone setting in especially with her being elderly. Hope you can get her checked out soon.
