Odor eliminators?
Hey it's me Miiko!
I wanted to know what kind of non-toxic odor eliminators are okay for hamsters,
I know that some odor eliminators could cause respiratory problems for hamsters.
-Sincerely,
Miiko <3

Re: Odor eliminators?
hello and welcome
Realistically you shouldn't need to use any. If you have a good substrate and do it deep enough, that should eliminate any smells. Females do tend to smell a bit more when they go into heat and some males scent mark lots which is just their natural smell.
Suprisingly, not cleaning out as much also helps. Doing cleans too often can make them scent mark more

Re: Odor eliminators?
Are you talking about air fresheners to eliminate odours created by humans or hamster odours from within their habitats? As Amethyst said, a good and deep enough substrate takes care of that but keep away from any scented substrate.

Yes, I was asking if non-toxic human-made odor eliminators (for hamsters) are safe for hamsters. And is scented bedding bad for hamsters?

Re: Odor eliminators?
Is there a specific product you're thinking of when you say odor eliminators for hamsters? I can't think of what you mean.
Scented bedding can be a problem yes. Anything with a strong scent should be avoided, they do bury themselves in it which can be very overwhelming for their little systems! That includes, and maybe in particular, pine shavings.

Re: Odor eliminators?
Air purifiers are safe to use around hamsters. I have one to help with a family member's asthma/allergies. They can help with odours too. Anything scented or that produces scents (like diffusers or air fresheners) should be avoided.

The product I'm talking about is Kaytee Clean and Cozy Extreme odor control. You can find it on amazon for a picture of what it looks like or google. I wondered if it was safe for hamsters.
And thank you for the advice on hamster bedding. Do you have any recommended bedding brands?

Re: Odor eliminators?
Kaytee clean and cozy is very good in my opinion and my hamsters like it but i would never buy the extreme odour control one. It really isn't necessary because hamsters are very clean little animals. The scents they produce while scenting or some females while on heat are natural and not unpleasant smells one has to expect when keeping a rodent.
