Winter White Hamster’s Ear bitten off as baby? Excessive Scratching, messed up ear ):
Hi! I just got my first hamster ever two days ago! But... my mom went to purchase it without me. I noticed that its right ear was messed up, and I really can’t tell what’s going on with it. I’m extremely concerned and I’m not sure what it is. I want to know if anyone might know what the problem is. He doesn’t seem to have ear mites or regular mites. He only really scratched his little messed up ear once and a while but when he does, it’s like intense and I don’t want him to hurt himself. Here are some pictures. I hope someone can help me, what should I try?

Hello and welcome to HC!
Congratulations on your new hamster.
I can't see the photos.Could you please resend them?
Did your mom buy your hamster from a petshop? What species of hamster is he?
Maybe your hamster was bitten by one of his siblings while kept together in a small tank and the shop didn't notice.
He'll be so glad to be with you now.
When hamsters groom which they do a lot, it can look quite intense. Often they lick their paw first and then have a good scratch.

My last syrian boy had a long-healed hole in one of his ears when I adopted him that looked so much like a piercing that in my head he was a secret punk rocker in a former life with a dark past and his super sweet nature was all an act!
On a serious note, like you said, it's probably a sibling inflicted injury rather than mites or something of that nature. I would just keep an eye on it for a few days as it may get infected. If it looks red or inflamed compared to his non-damaged ear I would consult a vet.

Hi! Thank you for responding, sorry I am getting back to you so late. It's been a busy two days. Here is the link for the pictures --> https://imgur.com/a/Zyc9p9O
He is a Winter White/Russian Dwarf hamster and my mom did get him at our local pet shop.
I have noticed that the scratching really is just intense grooming lol. His ear doesn't look inflammed or irrated and he hasn't been scratching it as much.

It just looks like a crinkle to me. Hamsters can have ear creases/crinkles

Bit of a cauliflower ear but as long as its not inflamed or anything i wouldn't worry about it.
He still has his other ear to express his moods with. He looks so cute!
