Red face Re: Syrian Scent Glands

Is it normal for a girl-ham to be noticeably balder around her scent glands? I can clearly see the glands - like little flat moles on either side, but she also has much less fur around them. It's even more noticable when they're greasy =/

EDIT: Added pics - the flash has rather exaggerated the balder bits.

My last boy Cat had very baldy bits around his scent glands from a very early age. His were very dark in colour as well my boyfriend thought they were sores till I explained. He used to make it look far worse because the greasy look would part the hair more, he lived to the ripe old age of 5 though so his baldy glands didn't do him any harm.

How old is she Spark? The fur loss on her sides looks more extensive that is normally associated with scent glands especially in a female. They do lose fur as they get older and some females can have hormonal issues which can cause fur loss.

She's only 7 1/2 months old - She's always been like this, but I think her coat has been getting lighter and it's more noticeable now. Do you think I should have her checked out at the vet's? =(

Is there anything she could be rubbing on that could have rubbed her fur at all. For example the wheel may be too small or narrow and she is rubbing her sides as she runs?
Maybe she is just a naturally thin furred hamster - it can be their genetic make up and if she has always been this way then this is likely.
Other causes of fur loss are hormonal problems, mites and Cushing's disease but I would monitor her and see if it gets any worse before taking her in unless you are very concerned and she shows other symptoms.

Unlikely to be the wheel, it's a 12" Silent Spinner. She does rub those areas around when she's in heat, but I don't think that'd be enough to thin the fur there.

She does seem to be less 'plush' than many of the other hammies I've seen on here. She's super soft but incredibly smooth, and I think her fur is quite short too.

Her behaviour hasn't altered, hopefully it's just 'her' =)

Will keep a careful eye on her though, thank you

Sorry Gamina, I didn't see this - hopefully Suggs' baldy bits are harmless too. Five years old is an amazing age =O

Being totally stupid here, but how do you know when a hamster is in season/on heat?
My Dorothy has what I thought was a urine infection or 'dirty bits' and there seems to be a strong smell but I wonder if she has just been scenting or if it's her 'lady time'!!
She is my first girl so not sure and any advice would be helpful. L x
