Re: Syrian Scent Glands
So this might be a stupid question but I was wondering if you have to clean these scent glands. Guinea pigs have the exact same things on their rear ends and I have to clean my guinea pigs once a month. Should we be cleaning them with something?

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
I have never hear of cleaning them for a syrian, but I beleive that an eye should be kept on dwarf species scent glands as they are underneath and can get a bit bunged up due to substrate rubbing etc. When I took my dwarf to the vet, she gave his scent gland a clean, but when I asked if I was somthing that I should be doing myself she said no!

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
As Hope said Syrian's do not need cleaned. If your dwarf has crusty or very stained fur then they do need cleaned. Hamsters for show will lose points for stained scent glands and fur. You can just wipe gently with a damp cotton ball though they still reatain staining generally

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
Just water - boiled then cooled to sterilize.

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
Thanks for this! I noticed the increased pigmentation on Peaches' genitals and I was concerned at first, glad to know it's normal.
