Default Is it safe waking a hamster if u have to

Hoji has an eye infection and the vet says to give him drops 4 times a day, so I've had to wake him up as he only gets up at night and that's it. I'm worried I'm just going to make him sick as he's an older hammy and I don't want him getting wet tail from the stress

Keep in mind that an eye infection is painful and the sooner it clears the quicker your hamster will be free of pain. Also, an infection can spread if left untreated. I don't think a hamster would get sick by getting woken up to complete a course of antibiotics which should only last for a few days.

OK thanks, that's my major worry, he's had it too long for my liking. He's been on meds a week which didn't help so now it's eye drops. I'm praying this works because I don't want it spreading. Thanks

I had exactky the same thing with my hammy Nanuk. He was on medication including oral medication and eye drops for an eye infection for weeks and the infection didn't clear up. Eventually I took him to another vet for a second opinion and he discovered that the cause of the infection was a mouth abscess deep in Nanuk's jaw.

Sadly the initial misdiagnosis left Nanuk with lifelong damage.

Maybe it is worth asking the vet to check inside your hammy's mouth for any abscesses?
