Unhappy Hamster has a cut/sore

Hi there I'm new to the community I have had my Russian dwarf hamster for a year now and hes been happy and healthy up until now! Hes developed a sore spot over the last couple of days and I would love some advice on how to help him, hes very nervous and gets freaked easily so I dont want to take him to the vet unless its necessary.

I think that needs seen by a vet. It could be an abscess or even a tumour that has opened up and it needs checked over. Also give the cage a good examination for anything that may have caused an injury such as the wheel, wooden toys with sharp staples or something that has chewed as well as possibly sharp bits in the bedding.

Thank you very much! I noticed it a couple of days ago and have cleaned it with some warm water and a cotton bud and it seems to be getting better, I have noticed hes been chewing on his wooden hut and it's pretty sharp so I'll remove it and take him to the vet!

Could you suggest which bedding is best? I have just had a look on the page and seen that theres recycled paper bedding, my hamsters very sensitive to new things we tried a new bedding recently for him and he hasn't stopped itching himself- which is where I think the wound may have been from

Kaytee clean & cosy (the white one) is probably the best bedding for a sensitive ham, it's just paper & very soft, low in dust too.
