my new hamster has a bump on her belly
I got her yesterday and I noticed this bump on her belly, can someone tell me what it is and if I should get it checked out? she is active and eating and doesn't seem to have any other health issues.
sorry, the images are sideways because it wouldn't let me upload otherwise.

Re: my new hamster has a bump on her belly
I think I might have that checked out by a vet. It should't be there in a young hamster. She could have had a fall and it may go but best be safe and have that looked at. Make sure the vet knows about hamsters though and can handle her safely as you don't want another fall.

Re: my new hamster has a bump on her belly
It is best to take her to an 'exotic animals' vet. They deal with a wider variety of pets than the usual dogs and cats that most vets see. Exotic animal vets will know all about hamster ailments.
I do agree that a lump like that should not be there. It is quite prominent.
Best of luck!

Re: my new hamster has a bump on her belly
My previous hamster Peaches had the exact same looking lump. We found it on her when she was around 10 weeks. Took her to the vet and said it was a Hernia. It never bothered her, and it never grew in size. She died when she was old, I believe her death never had anything to do with her hernia. She never showed any discomfort from having it. But just to make sure maybe you should get your hammie checked, just for peace of mind.
