Nose Injury Bleeding
Hi. I hope you'll forgive me for posting about a gerbil, gerbil forums are few and far between as well as very inactive.
My gerbil Paddy is 3 years old. He has had a tumour growing on his nose for a little while. Since August it has tripled in size and now takes up most of his nose. He has scratched it a little bit but mostly leaves it alone and doesn't seem bothered. Earlier I found him and he has scratched a huge hole in it and won't leave it alone, he keeps scratching it and rubbing it on the side of the cage and with his paws.
Is there anything I can do? I've put lukewarm saltwater on it but he just keeps on scratching it and getting blood everywhere. I have given him some Loxicom for the pain. I tried to distract him from rubbing it by giving him cucumber but he wouldn't eat very much.
I called the vets but they say they can't prescribe anything without an appointment. I'm reluctant to take him as the gerbils find it very stressful and they are quite old, but if he's still scratching it tomorrow morning or it gets worse I'll take him in tomorrow.
Is there anything I can do for him in the meantime?

Re: Nose Injury Bleeding
He really does need seen. Once tumours start to ulcerate and bleed they are quite advanced and may be making him feel some pain or discomfort breathing especially if they have grown inside

Thank you. The Loxicom seems to have helped and he has stopped scratching it, it has healed over. I'm keeping an eye on him at the moment but if he gets any worse I'll definitely get him an appointment. His brothers are getting on in years as well unfortunately, I'm trying to keep them comfortable for now but I know at some point a decision will have to be made.
