fleas and hair loss
hey!!
my cat often gets fleas and gives them to my hamster, and i keep the door shut and do as much as i can but things happen and he sometimes gets into my room and gives my hamster fleas, this has happened 2 or 3 times now. i regularly check my hamster so i can get rid of them fast, and today i saw some as well as hair loss, this has never happened before and i’m wondering why?
he’s 2 next month, but he’s lost quite a bit of hair so i don’t think it’s just old age, the top of his head is really balding, as well as a lot of pink skin on his back. i was wondering if it was because of the fleas or an underlying illness?? and what
should i do about it, this has never happened before
thanks for the help!!

Re: fleas and hair loss
update: i just checked on him and he’s so so so so slow, so i’m preparing for the worst this isn’t a he’s just woken up kind of slow, and he’s been out for a good 10-15 minutes and he normally would’ve woken up. i’m trying to keep him comfortable just in case.
he’s still walking around his cage at the moment but very slow, and he’s been on his wheel the last few nights so i’m not sure what’s changed so quickly. thanks for the help with him though

Re: fleas and hair loss
good news! he’s alive this morning so i’m not sure if it’s as bad as i thought? i can see he’s been at the other end of the detolf so that must be a good sign. we’ll just see how it goes i guess, he’s my first hamster since i was young so i don’t remember what older hamsters are like

Re: fleas and hair loss
i was able to get this picture as he was drinking, i was wondering if it was normal that the skin looked so pink? on the top of his head and on his back it isn’t so red, so i’m not sure what’s normal. help would be great!

Poor thing, it looks like it hurts. Are you going to take him to the vet ?

Re: fleas and hair loss
I think you need to take your hamster to the vet asap and also get your cat's flea problem sorted.
