Hamster fur issues!

Hi

I have a male Syrian hamster (one year old in December) named Gigi. Recently I've been noticing he has been excessively grooming (this is around the last 2-3 days) and last night when i was doing my daily health check on him I noticed teeny strips of white fur on him (he is sable banded). There is one line behind his cheek pouch, and on blob on his back, there my be others but he is a very energetic hamster so i couldn't take a clear picture. I'm trying to get him an appointment at the vets, but is there anything I can do in the meantime?

(he has aspen bedding which he has been using for the past month, no issue, he lives in a large bin cage with largely wooden and cardboard toys, chews, and accessories)

The vet said it was just him shedding as he gets older )
